From 1700 to just after 1900 there were seemingly endless wars to determine who would inhabit and control what is now South Africa. The first of these seem to have been set off by the introduction of corn by the first Europeans to visit and inhabit South Africa. This gave rise to a domino effect in which one group displaced another and then it happened again and again.
